Secure Shell, commonly known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol employed to execute commands on a remote server or to exchange information between a server and a client. Since the information exchanged by the two sides is encrypted, a third party can't intercept it, which makes SSH an ideal means of managing an Internet hosting account. The commands which could be executed are determined by the type of hosting service. On a shared hosting server, for example, the options are limited since you won't have root access to the web server, so you may only create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, import and export databases, and so forth. They are all actions that are performed in the shared hosting account and don't need a higher level of access. With a virtual or a dedicated server, you'll be able to set up server-side software or to restart the machine or just a specific service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted with a command line, and if you don't use a UNIX-like OS, there are tons of apps for other OSs, which you can employ to connect to the remote server as well.
SSH Telnet in Cloud Hosting
SSH access is available with all Linux cloud hosting we offer. With some of them, it is included by default, while with others it's an optional upgrade you can include with just a few clicks from your website hosting CP. You can get SSH access through the section dedicated to it where you shall also find the information that you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You can select the password which you'll use and, if needed, you will be able to change it with a few mouse clicks from the same spot. All of the commands that could be used with our shared packages are listed inside a help article alongside relevant instances. If the SSH access function is enabled for your account, you'll also be able to upload files using your favorite FTP client via an SFTP connection.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers
When you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, you'll be able to obtain SSH access to it with simply a click from the corresponding section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with all accounts. If your package does not support this feature by default, you'll be able to include it without difficulty via the Upgrades menu. After you go to the SSH section, you'll discover the info that you need to connect to the server via a command line or a desktop application - the server/host, the port number, the username and the password. The latter could be updated anytime, if required. These login credentials are also essential if you would like to upload files via a secure connection and you want to use SFTP, which is also part of the SSH access service we provide. A complete list of the commands which you can carry out shall offer you a better idea of what tasks you could perform within your account and each one is accompanied by a number of examples of the syntax.
SSH Telnet in VPS Servers
All our VPS server packages provide SSH access as standard, so you won't have to include any upgrades or enable anything - the instant the server is set up and you receive its login info, you shall be able to connect via its main IP address and the login credentials that you have selected during the signup process. Since the VPS accounts feature full root-level access, there are no restrictions regarding the commands that you could run. Your server will be isolated from the others on the physical machine, so you shall be able to manage virtually everything using a command line, including server-side software installations and reboots. That way, you'll be able to work with your files, databases and any apps you install in a fast and secure way.
